I don't mean to offend anyone. I do come from (& live in) the North part of the U.S., but I've been to Both Nashville & Austin, TX & when I see people or guys wearing cowboy hats I find it intriguing. Ok, so obviously we don't have it up here in the North, but I'm just used to seeing it on TV or Film (Not in person). When I went to Nashville I notice HOW MUCH Country music is Emphasized like people stereotype it to be. So, when I went to Austin I notice how liberal it is b/c it's a College town. Ok, so I also heard that Austin is NOT Considered part of Texas. Now, here's my Question:

Both Texas & Nashville are Country (I'm Not talking about the music - tho' Both do have Country Music). When I went to Texas (Both Dallas AND in Austin) I saw some guys wearing Cowboy hats. Now, I don't remember if I saw any guys wearing cowboy hats, But I do know (& heard & saw in books, online, & other forms of media) that there are guys who do wear cowboy hats in NASHVILLE as well.
I also know that Nashville Is Conservative compared to Austin - but Nashville is considered to be the South like Texas, but (not to be anal)

1) Isn't Nashville Located in the MIDWEST??

I mean, I know TX is Located in the South, but -

2) How is the Cowboy ("Hat") "thing" diff. if BOTH states have them?

If there are differences betw. Nashville & Texas then:

3) What makes the Cowboys diff. in Texas from Nashville (or vice versa)?

I'm just curious b/c when I got back a week ago from both Austin & Dallas I feel as tho' I saw "more" of the cowboy (hat) "thing" (when I was @ Dallas Fort Worth Airport AND Austin Bergstrom Airport) in TX.

Can anyone give me some insights? I hope I'm not offending anyone - again I'm just curious.

When I first read the headline of your question I thought the answer would be simple; Nashville is a single city in Tennessee and Texas is an entire state encompassing many cultures. I think your experiences have misled some of your questions, if you're basing your points about Texas solely on visits to Austin and Dallas. While I've never heard anyone say that Austin isn't a part of Texas (we love our capital). I have heard it often referred to as the Blueberry in the Tomato soup, and that does have a lot do with the very large university located there, but there are also other contributing factors.

Now to answer your more direct questions:

1.) Tennessee, as it's been pointed out by everyone here, is regionally considered to be in the South. The same as Texas. If you want facts, Texas is wide enough to range from the South to the South West, and you'll find every flavor of Southerner and Westerner in between. However, it's often a good bet that if a state didn't start the Civil War as part of The Union, it's considered the South by its residents.

2.) I'm not entirely sure what Cowboy Hat "thing" you're referring to. Cowboy hats and western wear exist heavily in Country Music because a lot of those musicians grew up in a culture where those we accepted ways to dress. I don't think it's necessarily a fashion fad for everyone wearing one, but there are a lot of people who wear them for fashion over utility.

3.) Since your discussion only covers people you saw in cities and airports I can't say whether you ever saw an actual cowboy or ranch hand. If you met a Tennessee farmer, and a Texas rancher, there would be differences in their clothes. Most farmers that I have met don't wear cowboy boots, they wear a work boot though. I've met a lot of farmers who also prefer baseball caps to cowboy hats. The difference being farmers don't often spend as much time ranging as a rancher does, and thus their head gear doesn't have to be as versatile all the time.

Further Advice: Please visit more of each state. They both have beautiful natural settings and well as some great to people to meet outside of the larger cities. Doing this would also help give you some more insight about the people who live in and near those cities. Next time you go near Austin though, make sure you hit up at least one of the joints on the barbecue trail.

1) Isn't Nashville Located in the MIDWEST?? No, Nashville is in Tennessee, eastern part of the US and considered to be regionally in the "South".

I mean, I know TX is Located in the South, but -

2) How is the Cowboy ("Hat") "thing" diff. if BOTH states have them? Guys wear cowboy hats out of personal preference. Nashville is the country music capital of the country, so lots of country singers wear cowboy hats. Not a lot of people in the big cities wear cowboy hats, whether it is Nashville, Austin or Dallas. Go out into the "country" -- rural areas, especially west Texas and more men will wear cowboy hats and boots than on average guys in the cities.

If there are differences betw. Nashville & Texas then:

3) What makes the Cowboys diff. in Texas from Nashville (or vice versa)? Most "Cowboys" are not cowboys at all, just guys who like to wear western wear- including the hats. Many have never had their butts in a saddle or ever stepped in cow patties.

1) Nashville is in Tennessee (which is in the mid east part of the US)

2) The cowboy hat thing is really just a fad. Some people wear baggy jeans and a hat backwards, some people dress preppy, some people dress normal, and some people dress like cowboys. The people you see wearing cowboys hats are not cowboys. There's really no cowboys anymore. They just like to dress silly i guess. I've lived in Texas my whole life and I still don't understand the cowboy thing, it's really ridiculous if you ask me.

3) There's no difference in cowboys in Tennessee and Texas. They are one in the same. Just a fashion statement
