What's the best way to get from John Wayne Airport (Santa Ana/Orange County) to Carlsbad?

I'm flying into John Wayne Airport and need to get to my hotel in Carlsbad next week... the hotel doesn't provide a shuttle and a taxi is apparently $200. I don't want to rent a car so am wondering what the cheapest way to get from the airport to Carlsbad is?

Carlsbad is about 60miles from the OC airport.



You can take the train, but it will take ALL day. It takes about an hour to get to the train station from the airport using public transportation (the bus).



I would guess a taxi would be more like $130-150 (including tip).

This is based on the airport being about 60 miles from Carlsbad. My house is about 25 and it's about $60 with a very generous tip.



Super Shuttle or one of the other airport shuttles.



My guess is you will be happiest renting a car. Carlsbad is pretty small town and I bet you would want the car just to get around down there.
