I'm 18, and the only trips I've ever gone on have strictly been to see family. We never went on an actual vacation, (Money's always been an issue) and I was wondering what it's like.

Am I missing out on a lot? What do you do?
Were you glad you went?

(Yes, I'm serious.)

I feel you, I didnt go on any real vacations until I got to college!!! when i was 19.

A real vacation is WAYYYYY different. Personally, I am a huge fan of road trips, where you have a loose plan on what to do but most things are on the moment. I'll give you an example.

I went to Mexico City 2 times. The first time it was with family, and most of the time we were spending time with family members i didnt even know. It was cool, but matter of fact is, my idea of fun is museums, ruins, hiking, visiting the city, night life... etc.

When i went again with friends, I went to bars, clubs, museums, met interesting people, basically everything I wanted to do.

Given if your parents arent paying, it gets pricey, road trips of 2 weeks have cost me on average around $1500. And this is when no flight is required!... My last trip to new york cost me around 900$ which was for a week.

Money will always be an issue but I live to travel so its what i save money for.

You're totally missing out. I try to get out of the country at least once a year. I LOVE traveling! I usually travel by myself because my friends either can't take the time off work, can't afford it or both. It's so much fun to see new places and meet new people. I'm pretty lucky because I can afford to travel. I don't have a family to support. I especially like the tropics!

My vacations are usually budget vacations. Usually around $1000 for a week or $1500 for 2 weeks. If airfare was cheaper I could get it down to $600-800!

Vacations don't need to be expensive. If you are working, often times taking the time off work is the most expensive thing you're doing.

I have gone to Europe and the Carribean by myself. I also drove across country and camped.

I didn't spend a lot of $$$ -- maybe $1000 for Europe including the plane ticket, $800 to drive cross country, and $1300 for the Carribean (so I had to save up). I did a lot of walking and instead of eating out, I bought groceries when possible. I would camp, stay in a cheap motel or hostel, or I also used www.couchsurfing.com (people who like visitors offer up their couches for you and it's kind of cool).

I've also just gone to the coast or to L.A. for a few days.

Your vacation time, like mine, is important to you. I didn't always want to spend it seeing the same people or going ot the same places. I'm independent and wanted some adventure, even though I can't see myself backpacking through a distant country -- just a week or two was just what I needed.

Yes, you are missing a lot!

It happens the same to me, and I can tell you that those are not vacations, that is family visiting. So much difference that is better for you to experience it on your own. Trust me.

Traveling opens your horizons and it's also good for those who travel together due to the stronger bonds that take place.

If money is an issue, take a look at this deals, you can probably find something nearby. This website has deals up to 40% less than any other in the web.

It would be so nice if you take the opportunity to enjoy yourself, there are magnificent opportunities and only one issue: IT BECOMES AN ADDICTION!

vacations are fabulous. and if you do your research correctly you can actually go on vacation for very cheap. so my suggestion is save up and plan and great trip because you only live once so you should see and do as much as possible.
