What is it like in Ithaca, NY? Is it a nice place to live? Raise a family? Are there things to do? Any info?

I have lived in Ithaca for about a year. I like it up here. It is a college town, but I'm not a college student and they don't seem to be overpowering like they seem in some other small towns... It is definitely a quiet place, but compared to the rest of Upstate NY it is super liberal, and has a lot of unique shops/restaurants/activities. They have a HUGE farmer's market with lots of local produce and crafts, and a cute little downtown area. There are also TONS of waterfalls and state parks within 20 minutes of downtown (some even closer) so there is a lot of fun outdoors stuff to do. And a lot of the outdoor stuff is pretty easy to experience. I'm a city girl through and through and I can handle the short hike in to where the waterfalls are. Anyhow, I like it :-)

I don't live in Ithaca, but I am in the same region of New York. Being home to both Cornell University and Ithaca College, the young student population is quite high. Located in the hills of Central New York, it's your basic small town. Good place for antique and craft shopping. Kids who weren't raised on a farm might be bored quickly here.
