Hello,

Anybody out there know anything about this town? I'm thinking of taking a job there, but need to check it out first.

I could use a recommendation as far as lodging goes. Is this city close to any other major cities in North Carolina, or an airport?

Thanks in advance!

I live in Morganton and it's a great place to live. No matter which way you look you can see the blue ridge mountains your close to Lake James and Hickory and your not to far away from Charlotte and Ashville. The closes major airport would be in Charlotte but there are two small airports Morganton-Lenior airport and Hickory Regional airport. As far a things to do Morganton offers all kinds of events such as TGIF where different types of bands play downtown every Friday. There is also Cruzin’ on the Square which is a car show that takes place many time each year, theres many different types of public art benefits, parades, and festivals such as the Historic Morganton Festival where big name people play like Kenny Chesney a few years back and and this year there going to have Little Texas, and John Michael Montgomery along with some other bands. Last month the first phase of Catawba River Baseball and Softball Complex opened. The complex in not all the way finished but by the end of the year there will be 13 baseball and softball fields along with many other things like batting cages and tennis courts and the expansion of the green way which is a long paved walking trail. The Morganton News Herald said that over 1000 games will be played on the fields this summer and that Morganton is going to build alot of restaurants and hotels near the complex in hopes of bring the Little League World Series to Morganton. Not only is Morganto good for baseball/softball but it also has two very nice golf course and and now holds the ACC Basketball Senior All Star game. Morganton is growing too, within a year or so Morganton is going to bulid a Super-Walmart, Target, Ruby Tuesdays, and a Audi's Food, also a new high school being built and Grace Hospitol is almost doubling in size, plus theres rumors that Home Depoe and many other stores are going to build here. On a more national note Morganton was voted in several magazines as one of the best place to raise a family and to retire to in the nation. So over all Morganton is a nice place to live. To me Morganton is a small town that has a big city feel. I could list more but it would take to long so I will leave it a that. Hope this helps.

Morganton is a nice place to live. The closest major airport would be Charlotte probably about 1 hour away.

Morganton is about 45 minutes from Asheville which has a lot of cultural, art and nature acitivies in the beatiful Blue Ridge Mountains. There is lots of hiking, biking and great music scene here.

Charlotte is the large metropolitan city. Great nightlife, concerts, bigger sporting events.

Major city is Charlotte which has an airport.

NC cities are Asheville is on the west and Winston-Salem and High Point are on the north.

NC neighborhood cities are Gaffney, SC is on the south, and Greenville and Spartanburg which have a large airport.

If this is the place I'm thinking of, they pronounce it Morg-ING-ton instead of Morganton. I don't know why. It was a little confusing when I went through there. It wasn't a large place, but it was nicely located in between other large cities. It's a short drive to Asheville, Knoxville and Charlotte. Beautiful mountains.

IF YOU WANT TO LIVE IN TO TOWN WHERE THE CITY ADMINISTRATION DOES NOTHING TO CONTROL SPEEDERS AND PEOPLE CONSTANTLY RUNNING STOP SIGNS IN SCHOOLS ZONES UNABATED, AND HAS BIKE LANES FOR BIKE RIDERS WHO DO NOT EXIST AND SPENDS MILLIONS OF TAX PAYER'S MONEY A FOR NATIONAL LITTLE LEAGUE HEADQUARTERS THAT NEVER INTENDED IN COMING TO MORGANTON, WHERE THE CITY COUNCIL, USING THE EXCUSE OF THE EXTENTION OF A STREET PLANNED TO BE DONE FORTY YEARS AGO AS BEING THE REASON TO REFUSE TO CLOSE A PORTION OF THAT STREET NOW IN ORDER FOR THE COUNTY TO ENLARGE AND EXTEND THE PRESENT COURTHOUSE FACILITIES RESULTED IN THE COURTHOUSE BEING REMOVED FROM THE DOWNTOWN AREA, THEN THIS PLACE MAY BE FOR YOU..
