thanksgiving travel traffic on east coast?

Hi,

I am new to the East Coast so I am wondering how bad traffic will be for Thanksgiving. I am trying to decide whether to travel on Wednesday or Thursday (Thanksgiving Day). The weather will be worse (rainy) on Thursday but I think the traffic will be better because everyone wants to travel on Wednesday to get there by Thursday morning!

Specifically, I'm travelling from central Connecticut down I-95 (through the New York city area) over the Tapanzee Bridge or the George Washington Bridge down to central New Jersey. I know that 95 is pretty bad any time any day so I assume it would just be a nightmare on Wednesday.

I grew up in central New Jersey (a place called Warren Township). If you leave very early, it should be OK either day. I would avoid Wednesday traffic any time after 11 a.m. My experience is that Thursday traffic is considerably lighter; but regular morning traffic will still be bad because a lot of other people will be making the trip with you. If you leave after 10 on Thursday, I think you'd do OK.



Good luck. I'm driving from DC to my parent's house (in Warren) on Thursday morning. I will not try to brave any Wednesday traffic, as that has generally been a nightmare for me.

Either day you go, go early in the morning. If you wait till 10 a.m., its trouble. 5 or 6 a.m. will get you past the mess with little problem.

P.S. If you wanted to take the scenic route you can go across 84 till you hit the Delaware water gap near Mattamoras/ High Point, then take rt. 206 down. Its bear country but I like it better than NYC and the mess of traffic.

that's thrilling; i've got lived throughout this international and this u . s . and that i've got not got an analogous experience. it is not that it rather is properly known much less on the west coast; merely in a distinctive way. it would desire to look like they have fun it greater on the east coast, yet perhaps that's the organic atmosphere that not purely makes it seem that way, yet in addition evokes greater human beings to beautify. Now, Asian is an exceedingly regular term. surely, because of the regular public of a few Asian cultures to be Christian, they maximum easily have fun Christmas. needless to say, their traditions are distinctive than those made in the US. i'm hoping that this permits and which you finally end up in the region to commute lots and spot what the international has accessible! in case you come across a greater useful answer on your experience, please share it!!

Leave EARLY Wednesday. If you wait til Thurs, and you get stuck, It'll ruin your weekend.
