I was born in France(citizen) and moved to Colorado about 15 years ago and just received my Green Card in 07'(US permanent resident). And just to clarify, I do not have dual citizenship. My mother and I are looking to get our French passports. She has hers' from when we moved, but its been about 15 years. And I have never had one before. We're deciding to get French passports instead of becoming US citizens because of a certain time-line. If anyone has any advice, recommendations, links, phone numbers, I'll take it all, thank you.

Forget the information on the commercial "eHowto" site, mostly outdated.

Passport applications from Colorado are processed by the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles, however the passport are produced centralized in France. It requires about 4 to 5 weeks. Should a full copy of the birth certificate needs to be obtained through the Central Birth Registry in Nantes it will require an additional two weeks. Since mid of 2009 all passport applicatons must be made in person at the Consulate Generals since the biometric data and the fingerprints need to be taken to be added to the microchip of the e-passport. Honorary Consulates are not able to provide passport service any longer. The pick-up of the passport also requires personal appearance since biometrics and fingerprints must be verified.

Required documents:

• proof of marital status (if applicable)

• a full copy of the birth certificate

• proof of address (title, leasing contract, utility bill, U.S. Green Card)

• the expired passport (in case of renewal)

• a European style passport photograph (35x45mm)

The British passport photograph has the same requirements

http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@travel/documents/digitalasset/dg_174925.pdf ..

Based on information of the U.K. Embassy certain shops of Walgreen's and CVS are able to produce European size passport photos.

• the passport fee

— adult [18 and +] - €86.00 [$106.17] - 10 year passport

— juvenile [15-17] - €42.00 [$51.85] - 5 year passport

— child [below 15] - €17.00 [$20.99] - 5 year passport

The fee is increased by €2.00 for those not being registered at the Consulate General.

Passport applications can be made from Monday to Friday between 08:45am and 12:45pm, no appointments required.

Only the government of France can issue and renew French passports, so that's why you must apply at an official French government location, which outside of France means a French consulate or embassy. There is no option to apply or renew by the internet, so it must be done in person, at a consulate location.

Denver has a French honorary consul. I'm not sure if honorary consulates send off passport applications, but they might so definitely call them and ask them. The address for the French honorary consulate in Denver is 899 Logan Street, Suite 406. The phone number is: (303) 862-3808.

If the honorary consulate does not do passport applications, you will need to go to the nearest French main consulate and apply for the passport there, in person. Colorado is served by the Los Angeles French consulate location. The website is here: http://www.consulfrance-losangeles.org/ and contact info for the French LA consulate is here: http://www.consulfrance-losangeles.org/spip.php?article1127

When you show up at the consulate, make sure you have all important ID such as your green card, driver's license, etc. You will need your French birth certificate with you, to prove citizenship ... you absolutely must have that, otherwise there will be issues. You'll need two passport photos to take with you. Those photos should be 50x50mm (2x2 inches). Call the consulate yourself, either the Denver location or Los Angeles location, and inform them of your situation, so you can get official information direct from them for your specific questions/concerns.

i'm a 5th era Colorado community. and that i stay interior the Denver Metro area (however the subsequent community over is interior Denver city limits.) I unquestionably love residing here! at present I spend the afternoon kayaking. observing the sand pipers alongside the seashores, and ducks and ducks out on the water, with wild vegetation and sparkling mountain refections! The park's merely minutes from my residing house. What extra ought to you ask for? Lodo (decrease Downtown Denver) is staggering to hold out in, with shops & paintings galleries and restaraunts & golf equipment. regardless of you desire. And throughout Denver there are super tiny neighborhoods you ought to spend the day in. this is the excellent city interior the international, and that i could no longer think of residing everywhere else!
