If you had a choice of living in an idyllic cabin in the woods or in a mansion on a hill, which would you choose?

Of course, it could be a McCabin (think Bill Gates here) and still be idyllic. Actually, a custom log home in a clearing on a mountain would be perfect. Something with plenty of room, including about a 2000sf library so I can finally get all my books out of boxes and still have room. An entertainment room large enough for all the toys, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for company, and an industrial-size kitchen. Don't need a swimming pool, although a sauna would be good. NO neighbors within sightlines. And enough good roads with twistys for my 'Wing.
Heaven....

I would have said a mansion on the hill. I live in a rather wealthy area, although we're not, with huge houses and yes those mansions on the hill. Lovely, large homes with rooms galore. However, now that I'm older and my children are grown, I realize you get bogged down with "things" and those things don't always make one happy. So now I think I'd take the idyllic cabin in the woods, as long as I can have a wall to put up book shelves for all my books! I realize now it's the people in my life, family and friends, who mean more than in what kind of home I live.

I like big houses and quite frankly I need a big house to hold all of my stuff. If I had a cabin in the woods I wouldn’t even be able to get into it just from all of the room that the books would take. I’m a pack rat you see and I have to have a lot of room so that I have a place for all of the crap that I hang on to. Just last weekend my grandson went into the attic and brought down a Howard Dean car flag and an Adeli Stevenson button. See, I keep everything, LOL.

I don't like living all alone in the middle of nowhere.
I like spending vacations for short periods in places like that. But, day to day, I like to live amongst people.
Having said that, give me the mansion, I'll sell it and downsize to a nice house, and then buy a cabin on a lake in the woods with the extra money... :)

I prefer the seclusion of the woods as opposed to be displayed on a hill. Not to mention I love walking in the woods for relaxation.

Cabin in the woods, but make it a really really big cabin with all the comforts!

has to be a cabin in the woods, without a doubt.

I would pick the mansion - cause I love amazing views, :)
